Breakfast Martini

We haven't been able to think why this martini is called what it is other than marmalade being in the list of ingredients. Which honestly has subtle bearing on its taste. It's quite light and zesty which one could see being served at brunch or a late sunny summer afternoon. Refreshing, yes! breakfasty... remains to be decided although brunch is what this cocktail is better suited for.

Breakfast Martini

--------------------------------------------------------------

makes 1 martini

1 teaspoon marmalade

ice

50ml gin

15ml Grand Marnier

15ml aperitif wine (like Lillet)

15ml lemon juice

orange zest for garnish

In a cocktail shaker, place the marmalade with ice, stirring to dilute.

Add the rest of the ingredients and shake with more cubed ice for 10 seconds.

Double strain, by using a regular strainer in your cocktail shaker and holding a fine mesh strainer over your glass. Pour through both strainers into a martini coupe glass. Garnish with orange zest.

The Rolls Royce

Do not let this ungarnished cocktail fool you. Strong and lingering in every sip. There is no indication as to why it is named The Rolls Royce, other than in the brief description, that one might be chauffeur driven around the British countryside while sipping this cocktail. Honestly, you do not need to be doing that to enjoy it and is probably more preferred if you don't!

The Rolls Royce

------------------------------------------------------

crushed ice

one part cognac

one part Cointreau

one part orange juice

Place three scoops of crushed ice in a cocktail shaker and add the cognac, Cointreau and the part orange juice. Shake well, then strain the contents into a chilled cocktail glass. Serve ungarnished.

Mexican Flag

Called the Mexican Flag due to its garnish of a green cocktail onion, a white cocktail onion and red cherry on a toothpick. We had no onions or cherries however that did not stop us from making this cocktail and slightly modifying the name, calling it the Mexican Cocktail. An enjoyable cocktail all the same without the garnish.

Mexican Flag

--------------------------------------------------

2oz (10ml) Tequila

1/3oz (10ml) sugar syrup

1/3oz (10ml) lime juice

ice cubes

Garnish:

1 green cocktail onion

1 white cocktail onion

1 red cherry

ice cubes

Shake all the ingredients over ice and pour into cocktail glass. Garnish with green and white cocktail onions and a red cherry across the glass on a toothpick.

Tequila and Dry

A variant of a Scotch and Soda however this uses Tequila and Vermouth. This cocktail has a warm summery glow about it and if you use a spicer ginger ale it adds a bit of a kick. For a more drier drink try using Blanco Tequila and a dry Vermouth instead.

Tequila and Dry
---------------------------------
makes 1 cocktail

45ml of Tequila
10ml rosso Vermouth
2 dashes orange bitters

Build over cubed ice in a highball. Crown... or top with chilled ginger ale, add more ice, then garnish with an orange wedge and a mint sprig.

It has been awhile since posting about a cocktail and all within good reason. It is nice to leisurely sip on one as opposed to downing one. I have shared plenty of cocktails and I am unsure if these will return into what did become a regular Friday spot.
